Maria Knapik is a Polish‑Canadian soprano acclaimed for her rich, expressive voice, vibrant stage presence, and versatility across opera, concert, and sacred repertoire.

Born in Kraków, she began her performing life very early — at age three she debuted on stage as both singer and dancer — and is the youngest of the “Eight Knapik Sisters,” a family ensemble that toured widely in Europe.

Her musical and dramatic training includes studies at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Vocal and Acting Arts in Poland, a degree from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, and scholarship‑supported study at the Britten‑Pears School of Advanced Musical Studies in Aldeburgh, England.

Maria has been featured as soloist in performances with major orchestras and opera companies across Europe and North America. She has won top prizes in international vocal competitions — including the Gerda Lissner Foundation Vocal Competition, the International Chigiana Festival in Siena, and the Greater Buffalo Opera Company competition — and has been praised for her ability to sing both Handel and Rossini with technical mastery.

In recognition of her contributions to Polish culture and musical arts internationally, she has received several honours, such as the Gold Cross of Merit from the Polish government and the “Medal Gloria Artis” (Silver) for distinguished contributions in culture.

In addition to her solo work, Maria is co‑founder and artistic voice of the Ottawa Classical Choir, helping to bring classical choral music to the Ottawa region and beyond.
